A World Of Art

Harper Jay Harper

We're half-way through our celebration of Psychonauts' 20th anniversary. There's been some cool art from Scott Campbell and a reissue of Double Fine PsychOdyssey Blu-ray to help folks find ways to expand their collections of merch and more. But we also like to turn outwards and ask you folks for things! And you all answered with gusto.

This is something we did on a much smaller scale with Grim Fandango's anniversary but a few months ago, I sent out a small form to fans so that you all could share all the ways you've celebrated Psychonauts over the years. You sent in tons of examples of cool stuff like hand-made crafts, baked good, fan fiction, and even a few tattoos. And art! So, so much art!

In fact, it was hundreds and hundreds of pieces of art. So today, I'd like to celebrate your amazing skills and show some of that work to the world. I can't make a gallery with 500 pieces though; my co-worker (and our web designer) Tom certainly would tell me something about how that would slow the page-load here to a crawl. So to start off, he helped put together a collage of everyone's work.

Here it is! All of your art, turned into a lovely Raz head.

We got so much art! Can you find your piece in this collage?

Still! I really want to show off some of your work at a smaller scale. I've dug around and grabbed some pieces to split up into a few smaller galleries. To start off, we're gonna focus on the subject of most of our art: Raz.

It shouldn't shock you all to know that he has the most fan art of any character in the games. How can he not? He's got a great design, a fun story, and Richard Horvitz' vocal performance is downright iconic. You took your love for Raz and shaped it into a variety of different designs and styles from anthropomorphic animal form to all kinds of cartoony re-imaginings from anime action to lumpy "wonk." It's damn impressive.

This is a small amount of the Raz designs you sent in.

Of course, some folks took up the invitation to share art more specifically celebrating the birthday itself. Congratulations messages, cakes, things of that nature. And while maybe one or two of those were for something like the 19th anniversary, we still love the sentiment. Having something that's really honed in to focus on this moment is very nice.

There's something very sweet about these images. Warms the heart! Pyrokinetically!

We received some lovely birthday cards!

Of course, there doesn't need to be a theme to any of these galleries. You gave us art of everything and everyone. Some of you even gave us art of original characters or your own imagined mental worlds. The depth of the creativity on display was as amazing as the raw artistic talent. If there's a character you can think of we got art for them. Sasha and Milla, Loboto, Sheegor, the campers and interns. Anyone and everyone.

And here's more!

Throughout the rest of the week, we plan to show off different kinds of fan creations from very unique projects to all the stuff I mentioned at the start of this post (tattoos, plushies, et cetera) and hope you'll enjoy that. We'll have some character popularity data and a few other things as well. It's been very important for us to hear from fans and get to know their stories. When did you first play the game? Who is your favorite Psychonauts? What have you made to celebrate the game? There's so much to show off and only a few more days left.

Of course, we might have a few treats of our own for you. You'll have to wait and see what those are. For the moment, let's just sit and bask in the wonderful artwork. Because holy crap you all really know how to sketch a scene!
