Telly Me More!
Howdy folks! It's an active time here at Double Fine although we've been a bit quiet on metaphorical radio. We're working on some very cool projects to follow Psychonauts 2 and really flexing those creative muscles trying different things. P2 was a challenge in many ways but also a great way to leap into a fresh chapter here at Double Fine. All the amazing highs and tricky stumbles of the process were captured in the Double Fine PsychOdyssey, which started as a modest documentary and sprawled into 2 Player Productions biggest work. And that work's been recognized with some lovely awards from The Telly Awards!
What exactly are the Tellys? They're a big awards giver founded in 1979 that focuses on video and television. When you get down to it, Double Fine PsychOdyssey really is one big season of TV. So it's a pretty good fit for something like that. We're pleased to say that the series has received a modest blast of awards from the Tellys. These include:
The Silver Award for DOCUMENTARY: LONG FORM (ABOVE 40 MINUTES) — NON-BROADCAST
The Bronze People's Telly for ONLINE SERIES, SHOWS & SEGMENTS
The Bronze Award for VIDEO GAMES & ESPORTS — ONLINE
The Bronze Award for DOCUMENTARY: LONG FORM (ABOVE 40 MINUTES) — ONLINE
& The Bronze Award for WORKPLACE CULTURE — NON-BROADCAST
That's a nice haul of awards. Many of them are self-explanatory. There's some love in there for the doc's long form nature and recognition as a standout work featured online. That's one of my favorite things about Double Fine PsychOdyssey: we just dropped that stuff on YouTube for everyone! Because sharing the journey was important to us. Both so that you could see the process but also so folks could understand that people make games and those people have their own personal stories. I reckon that's what the last award for "Workplace Culture" is about; the documentary captured the feeling of working at Double Fine. It's a pretty unique place. Particularly in the modern game dev environment! Being able to pull the curtain back was fun and we're humbled to be recognized.
Shouts outs to the 2 Player Production folks for kicking butt! That's Paul Levering, Paul Owens, Asif Siddiky and Renat Sirbaev. Thanks as well to our sound designer Steve Jenkins and our composer Drew Prusko aka Orange Drink! Additional kudos to Michael Firman for those unique opening animation sequences. They change from episode to episode! And thanks to everyone who watched.
We're excited to share what's coming up but ya gotta wait a smidge longer. In the meantime, expect the website and other spaces to open up a bit more with dev blogs and other random shenanigans.
